I just found out from our social worker that CIS is extremely behind in approvals right now, and apparently we can’t do anything until we are at least 90 days behind - it’s only been about a month and a half. Hopefully, we’ll get our approval before the 90 days, or else I’m going to have to figure out what it is that we do next. Earlier when I tried to call CIS, I found out that without a receipt number, they can’t tell me much, and we have not received a receipt number, which I was also told was normal.
At least we’re not the only ones in this predicament. Can adoptive parents get the same hormal stuff that natural parents get when waiting? At church today, I saw a white woman, with a similar height and build as me, with an African child who looked about 5 or 6 and the child was hugging and holding hands while singing. I don’t know if the woman was her mama, but that child sure loved her. I saw that and just started crying my eyes out - right there with people all around. I’m so glad I was running late and sat in the back of the church. Even more glad that I stopped crying by the time my friend, who was running later than me, got there. Now, I’m fine. Don’t know what that was.
Meanwhile, we’re still waiting to get the CIS approval form, which is required for the dossier. I tried calling CIS, and, well, think of every “contacting the federal government” cliche there ever was and you will know what that experience was like. I have an e-mail out to my social worker, and I thought she had sent something in one of her weekly reports giving us a more direct number/website for us to contact to get more information. I saw the computer screen, they have our fingerprints. If something came up in their investigation, I’m sure we would have been contacted by now. It’s just usual delay stuff, I’m sure.
What an interesting week.
I took a few days off last week, and Adam was on vacation all week. On Tuesday, we went swimming at our usual spot and hung out with his parents that evening looking at some old postcards they had come across. They were all to a couple members of the family and were dated between 1902 and the 1920s. Many of them were in German. Most are in mint condition. There are a couple of Christmas postcards in German that I think we should scan and make into our Christmas cards this year. There were quite a few pictures of buildings in downtown St. Louis, like the
I was thinking about the similarities in Adam’s dad’s upbringing, and my paternal Grandfather. Ethnic German neighborhood, speaking German as much as English, etc.
Then, my parents were contacted by a distant relative who said that a researcher had contacted her about wanting to write a book about my paternal grandfather (did I say that right?). My Great Grandfather was a very interesting man. He was a business entrapraneur who went into
