Hi kids - you will be reading about this day in your history books

I know this has nothing to do with the adoption, but our kids are going to read this and I want to note it.

Kids, in a few minutes, I’m going to go vote.  Your father scheduled U-Verse to be installed today, so he won’t be voting until this evening.

This election is unprecedented.  On one side, we have the first African American candidate for President.  Yes, he’s bi-racial, but he followed the advice that we will be giving you and chose an identity.  On the other side, we have our oldest candidate for president, along with the first female vice-presidential candidate that has a fighting chance.  After you read this, you can ask us who we voted for.  We’re not putting it here.

Never in my young-ish life have I witnessed so much hate from people calling themselves Christians over this.  If we didn’t have so much faith to begin with, I know the thought that if that’s what it means to be a Christian then maybe I should take my faith somewhere else would have crossed my mind.  Never in my life have I witnessed so much untruth, fabrication, half truth, and downright lies - on both sides of the ticket. Also, never have either of us been so sure who to vote for.  I hope and pray that by the time you are old enough to vote that we will have gotten over our fears for what is “different” and no longer feel the need to make up lies and believe those lies to get around it.

From your father and my standpoint, there have never been so many issues.  Our economy is in the crapper, we have a huge dependance on foreign oil, we are in one unpopular war, and another that is not being fought the way it should be because of that unpopular war (our opinion).  The last 8 years haven’t been going very well, and both candidates promise change.  We need change for the better and we need to rethink how we’ve been doing things - but which one will be able to give us what we need?

Now to the rest of you - I don’t care who the heck you vote for, but go VOTE.
