Puff, The Magic Dragon

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea

And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,

Little jackie paper loved that rascal Puff,

And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff…

That was one of my favorite songs growing up, and wasn’t there a cartoon in the 1970s about Puff?  I was at Target the other day and saw a Puff children’s book that Peter Yarrow of Peter Paul & Mary wrote, and it includes a CD of the song.

You know I had to get it.  I’m such a nerd.  I don’t care if people think it’s really about mari-ju-wanna, though I seriously doubt it.

I’ve been picking up children’s books here and there.  Jamie Lee Curtis wrote a good one on adoption called Tell me About the Night I was Born - http://www.amazon.com/Tell-Again-About-Night-Born/dp/0064435814/ref=pd_bbs_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224432917&sr=8-5.  It’s put away in another room and I don’t remember the title, but Dr. Seuss also has one on adoption that I picked up.

Best Buy also has the old Sesame Street - Pre-Elmo on DVD.  Now I know I’m going to offend some people as a good friend of mine is still an Elmo fan at the ripe old age of 32 so I apologize ahead of time.  Elmo, IMHO, is an annoying little ball of red fur and does nothing for good child development.

My kids are going to watch good quality children’s shows.  Shows like the old Seseme Street with the kids playing in vacant lots, or Electric Company with a young hip Morgan Freeman gyrating all over the place.  We also hope to get The Letter People and 321 Contact.  Captain Kangaroo?  I’m thinking Mister Rogers might be good.  Yes, he was a bit annoying, but where else can you learn how crayons are made?  Ok, maybe you can see it on How It’s Made on the Discovery Channel, but that’s not the same.  I’m already collecting the Muppet Show, and we have the Schoolhouse Rock compilation (Conjunction Junction, what’s your function…).

Who needs the Disney Channel, Noggin, Nik, etc.?

When they get a little older, we can let them watch the Smurfs, Voltron (got it for Christmas from my hubby - I told you I’m a nerd), Gummy Bears, Fraggle Rock, etc.  Who needs Hannah Montana and whatever little boys like to watch at that age (sorry, I have two nieces at that age - my nephews are still young and still like Wiggles).

I just saw that Amazon has all the old After School Specials on DVD!!!  Whoo hoo!!

Please if you have any other children’s book or TV selections, post a comment.

I do have a  Dossier Update Part 4.0, but I’m going to wait until tomorrow to share.  Don’t want to spoil it.

Have a great day!
